Study Tour Equitable Grading

Grading practices have a powerful impact on students’ motivation, mental health, and academic success. When grading is improved, it not only reduces student failure rates but also increases teacher retention and drives systemwide enhancements in teaching, learning, and school culture. To truly grasp the power of effective grading in a district, there’s nothing like experiencing it in person. That’s why I’m excited to invite you and your team to join us at our 2nd Annual Equitable Grading Study Tour on March 4-5, 2025.

What Makes This Study Tour So Valuable?

Many leaders are searching for effective ways to scale equitable grading from classroom initiatives to school or district-wide practices and policies. During this two-day event, we will explore actionable strategies for making grading more accurate, bias-resistant, and motivating for students.

We’ll learn from San Leandro Unified School District, a pioneer in equitable grading since 2015, and hear from teachers, administrators, and students about the impact and benefits of their approach. In addition, teams will have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from other attending district teams who are leading this work, including leaders from Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Arlington Public Schools.

Key Benefits:

  • Expert Guidance: Led by me, Joe Feldman, and our experienced team, you’ll gain exclusive access to our insights and best practices.
  • Lessons from the Field: Learn how colleagues in San Leandro and across the country have navigated challenges and implemented lasting changes.
  • Practical Strategies: Take away concrete methods for integrating equitable grading system-wide, accelerating other instructional priorities, and enhancing communication with caregivers.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded leaders dedicated to creating more equitable and effective learning environments through systemwide improvements in grading.

Why Attend?

Beyond the strategies and tools, there’s something powerful in being part of a community dedicated to improving grading. As Adriana Zuniga, Equitable Grading & Instruction Coordinator at LAUSD, put it at last year’s Study Tour:

“You can’t capture the joy and motivation of those leading this work on paper. Experiencing it with others, building relationships, and feeling the commitment to what’s best for students is invaluable.”
