Using points to measure achievement may seem fair and objective, but it can hide critical information about student learning. It is difficult to imagine teaching without points. As a former teacher and school administrator, I know that over the course of a term, we might capture and calculate hundreds, even thousands, of points in our grade books. Even the most progressive, performance-based tasks are often translated into points.
