What I like about Grading for Equity is the shift in the goal – the goal is learning and not points.

“On a traditional point system, you literally do not have to learn anything to pass. The goal is points. What I like about Grading for Equity is the shift in the goal. The goal is learning.

Because of this shift in grading, I’m more aware of what my students are thinking. Traditionally, I taught and then tallied the points they got. Now, I think about what they think, how to help them build accurate mental models, and how to help them figure out the meaning and craft solutions.”
